Bollywood singer Niigaam to perform in Qatar

Renowned Bollywood playback singer, Sonu Niigaam, whose songs have been featured in numerous films in Hindi, Kannada, Marathi and Telugu, is set to perform in Qatar next month at Khalifa Tennis Stadium.

The concert, on February 19, has been organised by Regency Travel and Tours in conjunction with the main sponsors, LG/Jumbo Electronics.
The singer is a particular favourite among the Indian community but is also well loved throughout the sub-continent, and the organisers are expecting that the Asian community in Qatar will turn out in force to see him perform in Qatar again.The organisers said the response to Niigaam’s past concert in Doha was far greater than expected, so they had to turn people away when the venue was full.  
However, this time around the organisers have chosen a venue with a capacity of 7,000 so more people will be able to get the chance to see the star’s performance.

Tickets are priced from QR100 to QR1,000, and purchases entitle the customer to a voucher for LG, with the different categories receiving different amounts.  

Tickets will be available tomorrow from all Regency Travel and Tour outlets, all LG/Jumbo electronic outlets, Virgin Megastores at Villagio, Royal Tandoor, Tandoor Express, Bombay Chowpatty, Aryaas restaurant, Khana Khazana restaurant and Garden restaurant.

Niigaam, whose songs feature on the record-breaking film Three Idiots, which is currently showing in cinemas, was chosen because of his huge appeal, according to Regency Travel and Tours general manager, N M Shafiq who claimed that “everyone in Bollywood wants to work with this guy at the moment – he has a very unique voice, and he has performed over 200 concerts around the world with every one of them being a huge hit.”
Director and general manager of Video Home /Jumbo Electronics, C V Rappai mentioned the close relationship between his company and the Regency group, and said that he was “very happy to be working with them again.”

“This is our 30th year here in Qatar,” he said, adding that the concert represents an excellent way to begin the year and that the company are looking forward to other opportunities for similar events in the future.

CEO of Regency Travel and Tours, Tareq Abdullatif Taha explained that the concert was part of the company’s ongoing commitment to involvement within the community in Qatar, whether related to arts, sports or other cultural events.
The company is also planning to bring out other musicians who may appeal to different communities here.
“This is just the start this year,” he said, adding “there will be many more events to help us keep networking with all communities at a high level.”

Background

Indian cinema (Bollywood) has many song and dance sequences integrated within the storyline of the films. Now although the actors are required to dance, most of them do not actually sing, instead they lip sync the words. Therefore, playback singers like Sonu Niigaam lend their voices in song for this purpose. Singer and Songwriter playback singer Sonu Nigaam has sung somewhere close to 600 songs for approximately 200 films. The amazing thing with a select playback singers like Sonu, is that they have learned to impersonate the actors’ voices so closely that it seems like the actors are the ones doing the actual singing. Sonu is hailed as perfectly impersonating Shah Rukh Khan’s voice.

Among Sonu Nigam’s famous songs are Suraj Hua Maddham (The Sun Dims into Twilight) from the movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum (Sometimes Laughter, Sometimes Sorrow); Do Pal (Two Moments) from the movie Veer Zaara ; . Doha audiences true music lovers: Nigam

Has life ever been fair? India’s successful playback singer Sonu Nigam states rather philosophically when probed about singers who take recourse in digital technology experts to address the shortcomings in their singing scale range.
“I don’t have any opinion on people,” he told Qatar News Agency. “Everyone has the right to benefit from the natural process of growth in society and the world. It does result in an unfair competition, but then... when has life entirely been fair ever?”
Nigam avoided criticising artistes who have adapted advances in sound recording and mixing technology to mask their vocal limitations.
Has digital technology increased competition in Bollywood playback singing and entertainment industry? “Yes,” said Nigam and “mediocrity too”.
Fans in Doha can expect to hear some of Nigam’s celebrated songs during his concert organised by Regency Travel and Tours at the Khalifa Tennis Stadium tomorrow.

Fans snap up concert tickets
Noted Indian singer Sonu Niigaam is to perform at the Khalifa Tennis Stadium tomorrow.
The concert is being organised by Regency Travel and Tours and presented by LG/Jumbo Electronics as title sponsors. “Tickets are selling at a fast pace. Limited tickets are only available,” a spokesman said.
Tickets can also be purchased at the Khalifa Tennis stadium.
